DIRECTIONS TO OLYMPIC BIRDFEST EVENTS AND FIELD TRIPS

“BirdCentral” - Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, Sequim Phone: 360-681-4076.
All events and activities will be administered from the Dungeness River Audubon Center, located at the Railroad Bridge Park in Sequim. The Center is at the west end of Hendrickson Road. Address: 2151 West Hendrickson Road.
Directions to Dungeness River Audubon Center from westbound Hwy 101: Exit Highway 101 at the River Road exit. At top of exit ramp, turn right (north) on River Road. Drive 0.2 mile. Turn right (east) onto Washington Street at the Roundabout. Drive 0.1 mile. Turn left (north) on Priest Rd. at the light. Drive 0.6 mile to end of Priest Rd. Turn left (west) on Hendrickson Road. Drive 0.7 miles to the RR Bridge parking lot at the end of the road.

Banquet: At Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Complex, 1033 Old Blyn Hwy (by the water) Drive time: 20 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Go east (toward Seattle) 6.4 miles. Go past 7 Cedars Casino; turn left onto Blyn Crossing, and turn right onto Old Blyn Highway. The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal complex will be on the left (0.2 miles). The banquet will be at the Community Center in Red Cedar Hall to the left of the double totems. You are invited to tour the Tribal facilities before the banquet starts. The Native Art Gallery and Totem Pole carving shed are open from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Reception/silent auction preview 5:30 to 6:30 pm, Banquet and program, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Bays and Coasts of the Olympic Peninsula: Meets at “BirdCentral,” Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 Hendrickson Rd., Sequim See directions to River Center above.

Dawn Chorus at Railroad Bridge Park: Meets at “BirdCentral,” Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 Hendrickson Rd., Sequim. See directions to River Center above.

Dungeness Bay & Three Crabs Road: Meets at Dungeness Landing County Park. Drive time: 15 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive north on Sequim Avenue (towards Dungeness and the Strait of Juan de Fuca) 6.0 miles. Please note that at the 5 mile mark (near the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse), Sequim-Dungeness Way turns off to the right and the main road continues across the Dungeness River, becoming Anderson Rd. Continue on Anderson Rd. across the river, to Marine Drive (0.5 miles). Turn right (north) on Marine drive and continue for 0.3 miles. There will be a three way intersection – Marine Drive goes to the left, Twinview Drive goes to the right, and Oysterhouse Road goes off in between the other two. Follow Oysterhouse Road down into the Dungeness Landing Park, and park near the restrooms.

Dungeness Spit & Dungeness Rec Area: Meets at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge parking lot.
Drive time: 20 min From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Go west on 101 (toward Port Angeles) for 4.6 miles. Turn right (north) on Kitchen-Dick Road. Drive 3.2 miles, at which point the road makes a right curve to the east and becomes Lotzgesell Rd. Drive 0.1 mile. Turn left (north) on Voice of America Road. Drive 1.0 miles on the main road (past the campgrounds) to the far parking lot at the entrance of the NWR. We will meet at the entrance to the NWR trail.

Ediz Hook and Port Angeles Harbor: Meets at the end of the public road on Ediz Hook. Drive time: 45 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive west on 101 to Port Angeles. There, Hwy 101 becomes a one-way street called Front Street. Continue straight on Front St. which becomes Marine Drive, and follows the edge of the harbor. Drive through the paper mill grounds,and continue to the end of the public roadway, which ends at the entrance gates of the Coast Guard Station (about 2 miles). There are public restrooms on the seaward side, and the Pilot House on the Harbor side. We will meet in that general area.

Elwha River Mouth & Salt Creek County Park: Meets at the Elwha Dike parking, N end of Place Rd, W side Elwha River off Hwy 112. Drive time: 50 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive west on Hwy 101 through Port Angeles. Approximately 5 miles west of Port Angeles, turn right onto Hwy 112 (to Joyce and Clallam Bay). Drive 2.1 miles, crossing the Elwha River, to Place Rd., which is the second right west of the river. Drive north on Place Rd. 1.9 miles. Turn right at the Elwha Dike sign (you cannot go further). Park wherever there is a spot in the next 0.2 miles. Meet near the portable toilet. To get from Elwha River mouth to Salt Creek: Return to Highway 112. Turn right (west). Drive 5 miles to Camp Hayden Rd. Turn right (north); drive 3.5 miles to Salt Creek County Park. Drive past the entrance booth straight down to the water. Turn left and meet at the overlook below the RV parking.

Endangered Waterfowl Breeding Sanctuary: Drive time: 40 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101, go west toward Port Angeles about 14 miles. Highway 101 becomes Front Street as it passes through Port Angeles. Turn left on Lincoln and follow Highway 101 through Port Angeles. Proceed west on 101 for about 3 miles. At the intersection of Highway 101 and Laird Rd. there is a Park-&-Ride parking lot on the right (north). Meet there, from which we will car pool, as there is limited parking at the breeding facility.
If you arrive late, from the Laird Rd. Park & Ride, go east on Rt. 101 one mile to Walkabout Way (directly opposite Dry Creek Rd.). Turn right uphill to the first left (at the “367” reflective marker). The road downhill will bring you to a paved driveway and gate. Follow the driveway down to the house.

Northwest Raptor Center Live Presentation: At the Sequim Middle School Cafeteria, 301 W. Hendrickson. Drive time: 10 min. From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive north on Sequim Avenue 0.7 mile to Hendrickson Rd.. The Sequim High School athletic fields will be on your left. Turn left and go west past the athletic fields, and turn left into the Middle School parking lot. The cafeteria building is the first structure on the left.

Owl Prowl (Friday night): Meets at the parking lot of the Longhouse Market & Deli (by the Chevron Station), 271020 Hwy 101, Blyn. From Sequim Ave. and Highway 101: Go east on Hwy 101 for 6.4 mi., past Seven Cedars Casino to Sophus Rd. Turn right and enter the Longhouse Market & Deli parking lot.

Owl Prowl (Saturday night): Meets after the banquet at Red Cedar Hall in the Community Center at Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Complex, 1033 Old Blyn Hwy (by the water) Drive time: 20 min.

Photography Workshops: At the “Log Cabin” 3830 West Sequim Bay Rd, off of Hwy. 101 Drive time: 10 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Go east (toward Seattle) 3.7 miles. Turn left onto W. Sequim Bay Rd.
Log Cabin will be visible on your left.

Protection Island Boat Cruises: The boat is the Olympus, which will load near the boat ramp at the north end the John Wayne Marina. Please plan to arrive a half hour ahead of the departure time.
Drive time: 10 min. plus 30 min. park and check-in time
From Sequim: Drive east (toward Seattle) on Highway 101 for 2.7 miles. Turn left at the sign for John Wayne Marina. Drive 0.5 mile to the junction of West Sequim Bay Rd. Turn left 0.1 miles to the entrance of the marina. Parking is in the south parking lot. We will assemble at the north end of the marina by the gangplank near the marina facility.

Sequim Bay & John Wayne Marina Field Trips: Meets at north end of John Wayne Marina by the boat ramp. Drive time: 10 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive east (toward Seattle) for 2.7 miles. Turn left (north) onto Whitefeather Way. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn left (north) onto West Sequim Bay Rd. Drive 0.1 miles. Turn right into John Wayne Marina. Turn left; drive past the marina building to north parking lot. Meet near the boat ramp.

Totem Tour: At Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Complex “House of Myths.” Drive time: 20 min.
From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Go East (toward Seattle) 6.4 miles. Go past 7 Cedars Casino; turn left onto Blyn Crossing, and turn right onto old Blyn Highway. The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal Administrative complex will be on the left. Park in the parking lot for the Community Center.

Wine Tasting: At Camaraderie Cellars. Drive time: 30-40 min. depending on traffic (20 miles)

From Sequim Avenue and Hwy 101: Drive west on Highway 101 towards Port Angeles (16.7 miles) and follow Hwy.101 as it turns left onto Lincoln St. and bears right at Lauridsen Blvd, go approx 1.5 miles and turn left (south toward the mountains) onto Benson Rd. Go .3 mile to Camaraderie Cellars (on the right) at 334 Benson Road.
